What is a future defensive driving trainer supposed to do?

A typical defensive driving trainer is usually supposed to discharge the following functions:

  1. Deliver classes for drivers;
  2. Hold scheduled and unscheduled (e.g. in case of a requirement to conduct a class for employees of their company or client/partner-company after a collision) workshops;
  3. Investigate traffic collisions in order to identify their root causes and lessons learned;
  4. Identify hazards/risks in the production cycle and propose possible mitigations to the management.

In the Program of the course, there are included the following main blocks:

  1. Defensive Driving for all types of vehicles;
  2. Obtainment and fine-tuning of road hazard identification skills;
  3. Basics of training module compilation from the existing templates provided by SAFETY DRIVER;
  4. Use of documentation in defensive driving practical classes;
  5. Holding of test using test forms provided by SAFETY DRIVER free of charge.  Commentary driving assessment.

Duties & responsibilities of typical certified defensive driving trainers working in large transport companies on increasing transport hazard awareness and road traffic safety:

    1. Testing of drivers when hiring.

      This testing consists of two main parts.  The first part comprises knowledge assessment of the Traffic Code and evaluation of road hazard identification skills.  The second part comprises a practical driving test on municipal or federal roads.

      During the test ride, the driver is assessed for ability to identify road hazards and know how to avoid them.  On this stage, the driver is also evaluated for their ability to create or choose safe conditions around the vehicle and identify road hazards/develop possible scenarios on how to avoid them.

      The model, program, and algorithm of testing, developed by our Company especially for the Russian realities and Russian roads, allows assessment of at least 80 parameters that give a full picture of driver’s behavior both in town and on a highway.  Other than that, the test covers driver’s skills and attitude regarding the preparation of the vehicle for a journey, checking the condition of the vehicle and availability of right documentation before a ride, and evaluation of knowledge and practical use of corporate rules and norms of organizational culture.

      Based on the results of the test, the road traffic safety professional develops a report for the management, in accordance with which the manager will be able to approve or disapprove the tested driver to drive a given vehicle or what vehicle/equipment the tested driver/operator can drive.
